Training Course Details

Whatever your dance genre or style, you can learn specialist skills and knowledge to work safely and successfully with a range of older people for health & wellbeing.

We offer a number of training and payment options. All training options provide current, evidence-based information and strategies for facilitators intent on best practice to enhance health and wellbeing for this demographic.

Training Options and Costs

Enrol in the Comprehensive Training Program to gain Certification in the Gold Moves Methodology

OR complete the Foundational Training Program first with the option to then upgrade to the Comprehensive Training Program.

1. Comprehensive Training Program

Complete Modules 1-7 (content details below) and gain full Certification in the Gold Moves Methodology.

COST for Modules 1-7: $1500 single payment

2. Foundational Training Program

Complete Modules 1 & 2 (content details below) for initial introductory training and receive a Certificate of Foundational Training.

COST for Modules 1 & 2: $450 single payment

3. Upgrade to Comprehensive Training Program

Complete remaining (five) Modules 3-7 to complete the Comprehensive Program to gain full Certification in the Gold Moves Methodology.

COST for Upgrade Modules 3-7: $1300 single payment

Training Modules Content

This self-paced interactive ONLINE module requires approx 12-15 hours of time and must be completed prior to undertaking Module 2.

Module 1 must be completed prior to attending Module 2 workshops.

Topics include:

  • Introduction to the field of dance for older people
  • Understanding older people Ageing, conditions that may affect older people and the implications for dance
  • Dance for older people for health & wellbeing – an introduction
  • Contexts and settings for dance with older people
  • Communication with older people
  • Duty of Care and Risk Management
  • The Gold Moves Australia Principles

The module Assessment requires completion of an online Quiz and written responses to tasks.

This module is offered IN-PERSON and ONLINE via zoom. Module 1 must be completed prior to attending the Module 2 workshop.

In this 2-day workshop you will:

  • Experience sample dance sessions designed for 2 different ability levels – one for active seniors and the other for seniors with mobility issues
  • Discuss how Module 1 learnings have been incorporated into these sessions
  • Have opportunity to explore and receive feedback on creating and/or adapting dance sequences appropriate for particular cohorts of older people

This module includes practical & written Assessment

This is a self-paced interactive ONLINE module requiring approx 20 hours of time. Completion of Modules 1 & 2 are pre-requisites for this module.

Topics cover a more in-depth exploration of:

  • Dance and physical health – this includes an emphasis on falls prevention
  • Dance and brain health
  • Dance and social connection
  • Dance and emotional wellbeing
  • Holistic impact of dance

Each Topic includes:

  • research evidence to support the benefits of dance
  • a range of dance delivery strategies to optimise benefits of dance
  • example images and videos of older dance participants

The module includes Assessment

This is a self-paced interactive ONLINE module. Completion of Modules 1, 2 & 3 are pre-requisites for this module.

Topics include:

  • Incorporating the GMA principles into dance practice
  • Class/session formats and structures
  • Adapting your dance with a health & wellbeing focus
  • Scaffolding dance activity for short term to long term achievement
  • Maintaining older participant interest and motivation
  • Dance session evaluation and review

The module includes Assessment

This is a self-paced interactive ONLINE module. Completion of Modules 1, 2, 3 & 4 are pre-requisites for this module.

Topics include:

  • Setting up your business model (or incorporating into your current business model)
  • Presenting yourself to older people
  • Participant recruitment and promotion
  • Administration, policies and procedures
  • Reflective practice
  • Self care

The module includes Assessment

Choose 2 electives from the following options:

  • Elective A – Working with Active & Agile and Active less agile older people
  • Elective B – Working with older people with mobility issues
  • Elective C – Working with older people living with dementia

These interactive ONLINE modules are more practical with greater emphasis on designing a dance session including creating and/or adapting your dance for specific participant cohorts and individual participant needs.

Each elective will explore:

  • Meeting specific needs of the cohort group
  • Investigating and creating suitable dance content
  • Offering creative activities
  • Working in different settings eg community; retirement villages, aged care and other care settings
  • Engaging participants in projects – eg performance, film, intergenerational, etc
